Serum precipitin reactions in Hashimoto's thyroiditis.
نویسنده
چکیده
Sera from certain patients with Hashimoto's disease or a related condition contain a non-precipitating antithyroglobulin which produces in double-diffusion tests with thyroglobulin a line of clearing in the agar. Two such sera are described. Other sera from examples of the disease give negative precipitin tests with thyroglobulin but combine with sera containing ;clear line', non-precipitating antithyroglobulin to give a positive precipitin test. The serum from 15 out of 26 precipitin-negative cases of Hashimoto's disease showed this latent property. Eight of the 15 were tested by the tanned red cell technique and showed substantial titres of antithyroglobulin.

A Micro-gel Precipitin Reaction for Hashimoto's Thyroiditis.
A micro-modification of the agar-plate precipitin test for Hashimoto's thyroiditis is described. The advantages are the increased rapidity in reaction, economy of reagents, and technical simplicity.

The clinical significance of thyroid antibodies is discussed and it is concluded that, of the antibody tests which have been extensively applied, the precipitin test is the most useful for diagnostic purposes. The recently introduced Hyland TA test is compared with the precipitin test. The TA test gives a rapid result and is slightly more sensitive, but it remains undecided whether a true posit...
متن کاملAutologous intradermal skin tests in women with Hashimoto's thyroiditis
INTRODUCTION In a large proportion of patients with chronic urticaria, a coexisting autoimmune type of Hashimoto's thyroiditis is being diagnosed. An intradermal test with autologous serum has been generally considered as a screening procedure indicating the presence of triggering autoimmune inflammatory factors in the sera of patients with urticaria. These factors could be possibly involved in...
متن کاملIncreased carotid IMT in overweight and obese women affected by Hashimoto's thyroiditis: an adiposity and autoimmune linkage?
BACKGROUND Hashimoto's thyroiditis is the most important cause of hypothyroidism. It is a systemic disease that can even affect the cardiovascular system, by accelerating the atherosclerotic process. Aim of this study was to examine whether autoimmune thyroiditis has an effect on the intima-media thickness of the common carotid artery (IMT-CCT), independently of the thyroid function and well-kn...
متن کاملThe effects of Nigella sativa on thyroid function, serum Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) – 1, Nesfatin-1 and anthropometric features in patients with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis: a randomized controlled trial
BACKGROUND Hashimoto's thyroiditis is an autoimmune disorder and the most common cause of hypothyroidism. The use of Nigella sativa, a potent herbal medicine, continues to increase worldwide as an alternative treatment of several chronic diseases including hyperlipidemia, hypertension and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The aim of the current study was to evaluate the effects of Nigella sativa...
